BARIATRIC SURGERY AND OBESITY

For those who have struggled with their weight for some time, and who meet appropriate criteria, there are now several surgical procedures that assist with weight loss.  These options enable individuals to lose weight and dramatically reduce their risk for obesity-related illness.

Those individuals contemplating bariatric surgery may have personal issues they wish to resolve prior to surgery, or issues about the surgery they want to explore, and psychotherapy can be very helpful in this regard.  Prior to surgery, a psychiatric evaluation will be required by the surgical practice.

I offer counseling for those who are contemplating surgery, as well as ongoing therapy for those who have had surgery but have not achieved the expected results or who are back-sliding after achieving weight loss.  I also perform pre-surgical psychiatric evaluations.

I am affiliated with the Hospital of Saint Raphael’s Center for Obesity Surgery, and provide evaluative and psychotherapeutic services for their clients.  You may view various surgical options, and learn more about obesity surgery at their website www.obesitysurgeryhsr.com

HEALTH MANAGEMENT

In addition to working with those setting weight loss or weight maintenance goals, I work with individuals who would like assistance with motivation in monitoring their health conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and smoking-related illnesses.  I provide coaching and guidance to help ensure the individual’s compliance with their healthcare providers’ recommendations and treatment plans.
