Stephanie Schacher, Psy.D. Providing assessment and psychotherapy services in Westport and Milford, CT
I am a caring, empathetic psychologist and use a blend of exploration of past experience combined with practical, concrete advice and techniques for how to best grapple with current issues. I am intuitive and use my understanding of people and their complexity to create a plan of action that is tailored to each individual. As a psychologist, I listen to stories, and help people to understand their stories and see them in a different way.
I am interactive, give feedback and direction, but also believe in each individual’s capacity to set their own goals and define their own measures of success. I work to help identify the individual’s strengths, and to harness them in working towards meaningful change. I also believe in using a good dose of humor to help people grow and feel better about themselves.
I am psychodynamically trained, and this approach emphasizes the role that past experience has on our current way of thinking and behaving. However, insight alone is often not enough to effect change, and having received training in many current cognitive behavioral techniques, I blend both approaches to help you develop strategies to make change in your life. This integrated approach of exploration and understanding, and cognitive and behavioral techniques allows me to co-design with you a treatment that is suited to your needs and who you are as a person. You will not find a cookie cutter, one size fits all approach.
A quote from the Eagles' song "Already Gone" has always resonated with me:
"Well I know it wasn't you who held me down Heaven knows it wasn't you who set me free So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains And we never even know we have the key"
