Providing assessment and psychotherapy services in Westport and Milford, CT
I am a caring, empathetic psychologist who has skills in helping people through crisis. I use a blend of exploration of past experience combined with practical, concrete advice and techniques for how to best grapple with current issues. I am intuitive and use my understanding of people and their complexity to create a plan of action that is tailored to each individual. I am interactive, give feedback and direction, but also believe in each individual’s capacity to set their own goals and define their own measures of success. I work to help identify the individual’s strengths, and to harness them in working towards meaningful change. I believe in using a good dose of humor to help people grow and feel better about themselves.
I am psychodynamically trained, and this approach emphasizes the role that past experience has on our current way of thinking and behaving. Sessions focus not only on understanding present circumstances but also linking them to past experiences.
I have also received training in many current cognitive behavioral techniques which emphasize identifying current unhelpful ways of thinking and acting, and correcting them through behavior modification and cognitive restructuring. I often use a combination of both approaches to help bring symptom relief and personal change.
A quote from the Eagles' song "Already Gone" has always resonated with me:
"Well I know it wasn't you who held me down Heaven knows it wasn't you who set me free So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains And we never even know we have the key"
As a psychologist, I listen to stories. I help people to understand their stories, or see them in a different way. I also help people create new stories for themselves and let go of the ones that others have created for them.
